Drunken Rats on My Spine

I woke in the early morning with rats chewing on my spine.
They were singing, “I will Always Love You” by The Cure…
“Whenever I’m alone with you/ You make me feel like I am home again…”
With every gnawing tooth my muscles convulse in pain
which forces me to gnaw my own tongue in silence…
“Whenever I’m alone with you/ You make me feel like I am whole again…”
Killers I had to pop,
and a comfortable numb over
came as if my body were laid in a bath of warm milk.
Progressively the rats were drowned in the milk,
bloated with buck-toothed grins
until we were all floating in the milk with drunken stares of death and satisfaction.

Beautiful, articulate, and dark.
Just like how I like coffee, beer, and poetry- Dark, because Life has its dark moments.
